African Sunset (And It’s Not Paul Simon)

Posted by: ariel on: May 22, 2009

So my whole library of music has been erased by some kind of virus and I have been given the task to rebuild it as fast as possible. I thought about it a little and told myself I’m going to rebuild it slowly instead, appreciating every album that comes in again.

Geoffrey Oryema – Beat The Border (1993)

I was busy digging deep into my Mom’s CD library and sumbled upon a guy called Geoffrey Oryema, an Ugandan artist. I put it in my computer and started listening to one of the most magical albums I ever heard.  The album is called Beat The Border, made in 1993. The beauty of the album is that the guy has succeeded making a modern african type of music, which is highly appreciated by me. You feel like being in Africa, without the horrors going on up there, just seeing an african sunset while listning to this wonderful album. Suddenly everything seems magical and unrealistic, you just get into it and don’tt want to go out. The breeze of air crashing into you’re body with the aroma of fresh leaves along with the luxury of having a beer and playing an electric guitar, that is what you will feel when listening to this. Go ahead and do yourself a favor and give it a listen, and even buy it if you can, those artists need every penny they can get, and they deserve it.

One of my all times favorites!

Posted by: ariel on: May 20, 2009

Yea well….I’ve been lazy, lazy uploading, writing, raring, and all the stuff making this blog all great. Is some one still here? I guess not, got a lot of work to do then.

I will try and make my comeback once more inspired by the truly great Kazeroi who has  also returned from a long hiatus.

Stevie Wonder – Songs In The Key Of Life (1976)

This album I am posting here is one of my all time favorites. Introduced for the first time by my Dad who apparently owned the vinyls as a kid. He wanted to inspire me with some “real” music and bought me the CD. Only today I really appreciate the work done on this album. The lyrics have meaning, the music is just fantastic and never gets old, even after 30 years since the album was first released.
The album was fully produced by the one and only Stevie Wonder in his 20s. Even today I am not able to  stop listening to this magnificent album and you should listen to it too (If you haven’t already). You will find many classics in it and you will ask yourself many times “Haven’t I heard it already somwhere?”. Well yea, many of the songs in this album have been remastered by many of the biggest artists today, making this album, even more special.
Give it a try, you won’t regret it.

2 New Amazing Albums!

Posted by: ariel on: December 1, 2008

2 of my greatest anticipations of the year havn’t let me down. 5 years untill the release of Dido’s new album and 1 year untill the release of Seal’s new album.

Dido_Safe_Trip_Home

Safe Trip Home – Dido (2008)

Dido’s new album got my full atention this past week and still can’t get enough of it, just can’t. Her voice is amazingly beautiful and the music is very well done. With the help of her brother Rollo Armstrong and producer Jon Brion she has made herself a masterpiece of soulful music which is very well done. Many critics and people may be saying this album is a let down but you have to sleep on this album to really appreciate it.

Soul – Seal (2008)

Seal’s album has been released and got m y hands on it just today. It’s an album with recreations of classic songs, and suprisingly he (in my oppinion) made the songs better. From "This is a mans mans mans world" from James Brown to "I’m still in love with you" by Al Green. Will up you’re spirit in no time, oh this CD is going to be playing in my car for a long time!

Nina Simone “My music is black classical music.”

Posted by: ariel on: September 8, 2008

My Baby Just Cares For Me – Nina Simone (1987)

So here I am again trying to get myself together and start writing again, need to stop laying around pretending everything’s is good and doing nothing, writing is something I like to do, so why not do it?

I discovered Nina Simone when I was in France this summer at my uncle’s place searching his CD collection and I just stumbled upon this CD. Her name sounded good, and my uncle said she is a marvelous singer and piano player, so I went and riped it on my computer and listened to it on my way back to Israel. I became addicted to her voice, to her piano playing, basically to this album. You can’t describe how beautiful it is. I am a fan of Jazz music, I got really into it lately mainly thanks to her, and you should try it to.

I really like the stry behind the quote “My music is black classical music.”, she refused to call it Jazz, and to be honest I agree with her, it’s classic music invented by black people, there is no disgrace in admitting that, people just decided to label it az Jazz, nothing wrong with this neither, but Nina’s piano playing do remind me of classical music, but she makes it sound a lot more modern and pleasant to the ear, a must hear.

I’ll try to keep posts coming, so stay alert.

Guess I would be back AGAIN / My Way Into The Blues Part 1.

Posted by: ariel on: February 16, 2008

I felt like writing everyday, but for some reasons, I didn’t have the power to do it, and damn I missed writing.

It’s one of those things you just can’t not enjoy it, nothing is better than sitting down infrontof your screen with a nice cold root beer, writing about any shitty idea I got, without being judged. How awesome is that?

I’ve been really into the Blues lately, I always loved it but never knew where to begin, what to listen, who to listen, how to play the Blues, and just everything until I watched the movie The Blues Brothers. I watched it as I was a little kid and remembered how awesome it was, so I rented it and saw there the legendary John Lee Hooker singing the legendary song Boom Boom. Straight up I looked about him on Wikipedia, searched some albums on the net and got myself into The Blues Town. There I saw an album also called Boom Boom by John Lee Hooker and downloaded it. I enjoyed every second of this album, and still enjoying.

P.S.

This is not the official album called by the same name “Boom Boom”. I really don’t know what this album is, I guess it’s a bootleg or something, but don’t miss it, worth every second.

The Blues Brothers Baby!

Posted by: ariel on: November 27, 2007

I’m really not in the mood latley to to, well basicaly anything. Teachers Stirke is still on for the 48th day now I think (I lost count since the 30th day) and it’s driving me nuts. Did you ever had to deal with so much free time? From a day built from 7 hours school, 3 hours tennis practice and 1 hour of Home Work, I could say, well I’m pretty much to doing nothing. Ok I’m going to the gym for 1 hour 3 times a week and occasionally play some tennis once and a while.

The one thing that is keeping me up is Music of course, so my week’s pick is The Blues Brothers OST.

I won’t tell you anything about it because I’m tired (ironic uh?) so enjoy this FINE Blues album directly from The Blues Brothers!

RIP Dear PC

Posted by: ariel on: November 1, 2007

2 months ago my PC started to crash randomly without any known reason, this was the beginning of a long and painful journey. At first it seemed like just some normal virus case, but i was wrong. It turned out there was a hardware problem. Because of my Mom working in a hardware import company I had the chance to send my PC to a check up there and apperantly just needed to be cleaned up (yes, it was D-I-R-T-Y). They said everything should be fine now. It was untill the PC crashed again 1 week after, this was a major distressing situation. Time past slowly as i began to understand, he is in major pain. 4 days ago my PC crashed for its last time and left behind it a trail of unfinished tasks (my latest post was ready to go saved on my hard disk). Eventualy it turned out that my graphics card got burned out because it didn’t get enough power. After 4 years of a long journey with my dear PC it was time to say goodbye. I’ll get a new computer eventualy but for now you’ll have to bare the idea that i won’t be posting any music for a while. You’ll have to enjoy my undenyble awsome writing and english.
I’m out for now, and get ready for a huge philosophy post this upcoming week, have a nice weekend! (I’m in already in a huge weekend, i think its already 3 weeks).

I Really Need To Start Writing Again

Posted by: ariel on: October 20, 2007

Those 2 last weeks were the most unbusy weeks of my fucking entire like. Israel teachers are in a huge strike against the authorities, and they have all the reasons to, poor teachers, getting low wage payments and are treated like whores on duty. Basically out educational system sucks balls, this is why I’m going to a “Nerd’s school”, getting the bus every morning and driving it for 40 minuets every morning (last year was 1 hour) when I have a high school 5 minutes walk near my house. When I say its a Nerd’s school i really mean it, no one is popular, everyone is behaving as he likes to without giving a crap about others and we don’t do drugs, a real fucking nerd school. But I’m enjoying it, its something i wish to everyone to experience. So the strike i think will last something like 3 months or so, so fuck.

Well this was just a test to see how reliable you people are to my blog, well i guess if you continued reading till here then you do care about me :) .

Recently I read a book by an Irish writer. Julian Gough, who was previously on a Rock band (I think they still exist), the book is called Juno & Juliet and its about two gorgeous twin sisters who goes to the university at Galway in Ireland, just an amazing book that touched me allot (the plot doesn’t sound real exiting but let me assure you its a fabulous book)  and through this book I opened to the real world. It’s like I was one touch away from liberty and self choices, It’s like I was living real life outside the cell I’m in. I know that I’m supposed to feel like freedom is at my doors, just one year away, but unfortunately it isn’t. As an Israeli citizen I have to go to the army at the age of 18 for 3 years of obligatory service, which kinda sucks balls more than the teachers strike. Now the thing is that I’m in a dilemma, a huge dilemma, to go to the army and waste 3 years of my “life” defending my country from those fucking terrorists bastards or get out from the army by making myself a jerk that dont give a shit about the army and fail all the tests and then they will let me go and will tell me I’m not needed in the army, that will make me a bastard in the eyes of israeli people so getting work here in the future will be almost impossible. Two fucking choices that I have to choose from before the 18.11.07, this is the date of my tests for the army. I don’t want another institution that will prevent me to fly to my freedom as a person. I want to open, discover, learn, enjoy, just start living fucking life!! But on the other hand people had died for my protection here in Israel, the least i can do is to serve the army as a gratitude to those who died for the country, its  not a big country that let their man die for no purpose, we are in a fucking war since the country was established, its the fucking only country that jews can live in totally peace in society, the only country that Jews have. I really can’t decide, its pissing me off, freedom is one step away from me, life is about to begin and i need to go to the fucking army, just fuck it.

Ahhh, music will not accompany me here on this post, because of my laziness and boredom. You will have to forgive me, and I promise you all that more music will come next time, with a great joyful post about how the sky is blue and how the wind whispers to the lovers.

If you feel to comment to a shitty post as this one, do so, i will appreciate it alot.

Ahhhh

Posted by: ariel on: September 27, 2007

Ahhhh how many shit can a man handle? well I won’t know till I’ll have enough of it so to relax a bit I’ll just write. No personal stuff today but maybe this weekend I’ll continue my line of questions.

Every one has his own way to wake up in the morning, some drink 4 cups of coffee, some watch TV, some read the newspaper, some just won’t wake up. My way to wake up in the morning is just 4 simple words: Buena Vista Social Club. What is the Buena Vista Social Club? I really can’t tell you because i don’t know :P but it’s AWSOME! I feel joy everytime i hear them, every morning i get myself a good portion of it and I’m set for all day. Try it yourself and tell me if it works, maybe I’m not the only mad man around. By the way, its latin music, so be ready to move!

First Philosophy Question: What Is Life?

Posted by: ariel on: September 21, 2007

A question that popped out in my mind for several months now and I’m trying to figure that out in someways. Music is my way to express my self and if people do know me (which is none) will understand that I’m living along with it. This post will be damn long because as I told you its gonna be a blog which will be talking about music along with personal life (which intrests no one except me) but its the only way for me to explain or describe why I love this music and how did i got to listen to it, because behind every time you discover something new there is a story behind it. So back to my first question, What Is Life? I’m still 16 (17 in 3 months) and I’m kinda different from other people, I think normally farther than most. I’ll only explain about one part today of my answer to this question because its damn long and its late night and I’ll probably get confused while writing everything down (you’ll see how it connects to music later on).

Our world is made of ants, lots of ants, but not just any ants, ants with a brain that works, and every ant has his own kind of personality and way of thinking. But only problem is that culture is shaping the ants to what the it wants us to be.People don’t think anymore, they are stuck in their own bubble. Get money, buy stuff, party and just live life but they wont think further, why the hell are you here? Is working in a grocery shop is the way you want to spend your life? your few years to live? Culture has caught us and determined us how we’re supposed to be, and you can’t ignore it, but you have to stop it from be your life. Invent yourself a way of life, your own, don’t let others to distract you and to keep you in a some kind of blockness from what you can really be. Will i live according to what scociety described me? working in some Hi-Tech factory? is this what as an ant living in a world supposed to do? Maybe yes but you always have a choice to make, you can always go after what you really want. Go after it and never let go, stick to your mind and never let someone else to shape you. Always but always think further, further from what you think now.
How the hell is everything has to do with music? Ahhh….let me tell you that i started thinking like that because of music. An artist called Yann Tiersen. Got to know him as my parents divorced through my dad and i always kept it in my library but never listened to it because if people will know that im listening to him, they will think im a geek (a teenage boy thinking) but 6 months ago i reopened his folder and started to listen to him. And then after that i started to play his song son the piano and at the first time i opened to stuff, I never played the piano in my free time because i thought its geeky and stuff, but always kept learning and i don’t know why. Slowly slowly i started to think about everything, about how we people live, how we are supposed to live, what the hell am I here for? Now after 6 months I answered my question and i can’t really describe it but i tried, and ill try to explain everytime ill post another post. But I think thats it for now, now im confused my self :P . (Short description for something i can’t really explain how)

I uploaded the latest Yann Tiersen album Les Retrouvailles so you can also get into him and enjoy some fabulous creativity and music and of course the latest The Cinematic Orchestra Album as I promised (2 to go!), the album is called Ma Fleur and probably their best album. I won’t describe about those two because I’m damn tired but trust my word, they are worth every minute of time. Enjoy them!
